Every now and then, you hear of a product you want to try. That’s how I feel about “Zip-It.”

The gadget is a long, thin piece of flexible plastic with barbs along the edge. Push it into a clogged drain, says its manufacturer, Luoma Enterprises of Duluth, Minn., and it comes out with whatever is plugging up your pipe.

Zip-It is 20 inches long, made to remove clogs near the stopper or in the trap. If you clean it afterward, you can use it three to four times.

Here’s the best part: It costs $2 and can be found at places like Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards and Walgreens. For more, log on to www.zipitclean.com. If you try it, let us know.

P.S. To my plumber: You’re a good man and a fair one, but admit it, you don’t enjoy cleaning drains any more than I enjoy paying you $50
